Announcements - September 17, 2014

9/17:    Tomorrow is a dress down day for DECA.  Bring in your dollar if you want to dress down.  Please check your agenda for the dress down guidelines.

9/17:    Tomorrow - Hobart & William Smith Colleges, SUNY Maritime College, St. Bonaventure University, and SUNY Binghamton will be visiting.  Please sign up in the counseling office if you are interested in visiting with any of these colleges.

9/17:    Spanish Club is having its first meeting of the year tomorrow morning at 7:25 in room M5. All are welcome!

9/17:    The first art club activity will be tomorrow Thurs. Sept 18th from 3-4 pm. Grades 6-12 are welcome, you do not need to be an art student to join.   Meet in the high school art room 115.  See any art teacher with questions - See you for art club on tomorrow after school!

9/17:    Habitat for humanity will be holding its first meeting of the year this Thursday at 7:15am in room 104.  All interested in joining are welcome!

9/17:    Come join our first FOCUS meeting of the year.  We will meet today at 3pm in the media center.  All grade levels are welcome.

9/17:    If you are interested in a 5hr or 6hr driving course – please see Mrs. Costello in the Counseling Office for more information.

9/17:    ALL MATH LEAGUE MEMBERS –and aspiring members- your t-shirt orders and $12 payment are due THIS Friday by 3:00 PM.  Don’t be left out!  Get your order form to one of the officers TODAY!

9/17:    New and former members of Bluestockings are invited to attend the Highbury Tea to be held at Mrs. Boesl’s house this Sunday afternoon at 3:30.  Senior hostess will provide refreshments.  Please bring a copy of “Tess of the D’Ubervilles” by Thomas Hardy.

9/17:    Do you like Doctor Who?  Are you just interested?  Join us for the Doctor Who club meeting in room M-104 on Thursday, 9/18 from 3-4 pm.  Thank you!

SPORTS:

9/17:    The Mercy Girls Swim Team had a great meet yesterday against Brockport.  They fell just a tad short of the win 80-83, but did outstanding as a team!  There were many Sectional qualifying times again and many best times by the girls. Janessa Chichelli had a great 500 Free with a best time for the season by 11 sec and qualified for sectionals in the 200 Free & 500 Free.  Meagan Martin blew her previous Sectional qualifying time out of the water with a 5 sec drop in her 100 Back.    Sydney Vita had two outstanding finishes with a best time in both the 200 Free and 100 Free, qualifying for Sectionals in the 200 Free.  Overall, the girls swam amazing and the cheers couldn’t be missed for miles around!  Great Job Swimmers!!

9/17:    Mercy golf beat Penfield today with a HUGE score of 50 to 28.  We had co-match medalists with Danielle Antetomaso and Nicole Vigliotti both shooting fabulous rounds of 44.  Christina Potter was close behing with a score of 46.  Mackenzie and Megan Fox also helped with the victory.


Announcements - September 16, 2014

9/16:    Attention all theatre performers....This year’s fall play is Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling.  Auditions will be held today from 3:00-5:00 in the auditorium. Details and sign-up sheets are posted on the drama board located next to the first floor bathroom. Please see Miss Bianchi with any questions.  You must report to the auditorium by 3:00pm on the day of your audition. Thank you!

SPORTS:

9/16:    The varsity soccer team defeated Brighton last night 2-1.  Rachel Manhardt saved a penalty kick with 6 minutes left in the game.  Amanda Mietus had the game winning goal with 1 minute left in over time.  The monarchs are now 6-0-1

9/16:    In golf, Mercy beat Fairport 44.5 to 33.5 but the actual scores were much closer than that.  It was a real tight match and Mercy girls fought hard for the scores.  Christina Potter was medalist for the match with her terrific 39.  Mackenzie Campbell and Erin Murphy tied for the next sport with super scores of 41.  Julia Culhane was terrific with her round of 43.  Megan Fox had the only birdie for both teams out there with her 45.  Maddy Smith also helped with the victory.  Great job all.

9/15:    A VERY IMPORTANT announcement for Math League members: Your t-shirt price this year is $12.  The $10 figure that is on your order form is incorrect.  If paying by cash, please bring exact amount.

9/15:    Attention- all students auditioning for steel magnolias must report to the auditorium by 3:00pm on the day of their audition. Thank you!

9/15:    Would you like to help a refugee child with their homework or play with them after school?  Passport is going to Mary’s Place tomorrow after school.  We will leave Mercy at 3 tomorrow and return to Mercy by 5:15.  All highschoolers are welcome.  If you have gently used books or toys for the refugee children (anything for ages 5-teenager), bring them along to donate!!! 

On Wednesday, we will be going to The Legacy to play board games or cards with the elderly residents there.  If you play the piano or would like to practice your musical instrument, the elderly LOVE to hear you play!!!  Please sign up for these Passport Service Learning opportunities outside of Mrs. Randazzese's office, which is located on the 3rd floor, middle staircase!

SPORTS:

9/15:    The varsity cross-country team placed first in the West Seneca Invitational on Saturday.

Charlotte Kurzweil finished 7th with a time of 20:36, Katie Giugno finished 11th with a time of 20:49, Katie Sergeant finished 14th with a time of 21:11, Grace Fjermedal finished 21st with a time of 21:47, Laura Huff finished 33rd with a time of 22:30, Catherine Flugel finished 38th with a time of 22:48, and Julia McLaughlin finished 54th with a time of 23:53.  Great race ladies!
