Teachers plan instruction through backward design, that is, by posing these essential questions: What do we want our students to know and be able to do at the end of the course, at the end of the unit, and at the end of each lesson?  This Standards-Based approach calls upon teachers:

  • To clearly articulate the standards that the students will achieve.
  • To create assessments that will measure the extent to which the students are successful in achieving standards.
  • To design learning activities to facilitate students to not only meet, but exceed these standards.
  • To continue to reflect on and refine the process.
