Women of the New Testament WebQuest

Introduction Task Process Conclusion

Introduction

Women were as essential in the formation of Christianity as they are in the work of the Church today.
From the role of Jesus' mother Mary in the formation of her Son, to the witness of Mary Magdalene, Apostle to the Apostles, to the 16 women mentioned by St. Paul in his letters, women have played vital roles in our faith tradition.

We will be exploring the background and stories of these important women of the New Testament. Once we research several women, we will use what we learned to produce our own episode of a talk show in which several New Testament women are guests. The talk show will be videotaped in class and evaluated by Ms. Tierney and another sophomore Scripture class.

The class will be divided up into four large groups. Each group will focus on one of the following groups of women:

* Women in Jesus' ministry
* Women at the Cross and Empty Tomb
* Women in the Early Church
* Group of "experts" on Scripture, etc.

Within your group, each person will be assinged a specific role or task.

The directions are for the WebQuest part of the assignment. You will work alone for Part I and with a partner from your group on Part II to discover information from web sites and print materials about women in Jesus' ministry and in Early Christianity. Directions about the talk show assignment and roles will be given at the conclusion of this page and clarified in class.
