CHARACTER EDUCATION

Mercy Middle School creates a supportive and nurturing environment for every student. There are several ways in which students receive recognition for their effort, character and embodiment of the Mercy spirit. They include the characteristic of the month, Incredibles and Mercy Moments.

Character Counts

Based roughly upon the Character Counts six pillars of character, the Middle School features a different characteristic each month to encourage our young ladies to be aware of how they interact with others around them, their personal strengths and areas in which they can improve upon. The Middle School community selects one girl from each grade that epitomizes the characteristic of the month. At the end of the month the two girls are recognized for their outstanding character in an assembly.

Middle School Community Service

Community service and showing mercy towards others are central themes at Mercy Middle School. The opportunities for young ladies range from school-wide activities of ministry days and Christmas Baskets to joining Melders, a unique experience that allows the girls to spend time with the Sisters of Mercy. There are also several social events planned for students and families to help create the bonds and friendships that will truly last a lifetime.

The Incredibles

The Incredibles recognizes students for their “incredible effort” in a particular subject. Teachers can nominate their students based upon their recent accomplishments and then the students have their picture placed on the Incredibles board for recognition.

Mercy Moments

Mercy Moments are a way to encourage students to embrace the Mercy spirit and act accordingly. When students are seen doing something that is kind or merciful, teachers fill out a leaf with the name of the student and what they witnessed. That leaf is then hung on the character tree in the Middle School hallway.
