Circle of Mercy in Action! Kelly Smith ‘13

April 27, 2020

Circle of Mercy in Action! Kelly Smith ‘13 and her family were recently highlighted on Channel 8 helping us to remember what is truly important during this time in the world – love of family. Kelly’s father, Gary, loved baseball (especially the Cleveland Indians) and passed that love onto his kids. Kelly, who played softball, soccer, and ran track at Mercy, never outgrew her love for sports, or her shared fanaticism for the Indians. In 2013, Gary was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout his battle, Kelly always found joy in bonding with her dad over Cleveland baseball, even attending a World Series game together. When Gary died in 2017, Kelly memorialized their shared love of baseball in an essay titled “Game of Inches: A Love Letter to the Cleveland Indians from a Girl and her Dad.” Two years later, Kelly’s older brother Kyle, transformed the letter into a video which was recently shared by the Cleveland Indians, Axios Sports, and Channel 8. “With everything going on in the world right now, it’s more important than ever to share joys with those we love,” said Kelly. “I hope this video reminds all of us to enjoy our family and everything special to us.” Click to watch Kelly’s amazing video: https://bit.ly/2xTyVty
