February 10, 2023

Mercy’s Board of Trustees and Interim President of Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sherylanne Diodato as Mercy’s new Principal.
Dr. Diodato will be joining Mercy as the 11th principal in Mercy’s history. Dr. Diodato came to Mercy in January of 2019 where she served as Middle School Dean for 3 ½ years and was recently appointed Interim Principal in June of 2022. Dr. Diodato is also an alumna of Mercy’s graduating class of 1993.
The months-long search for Mercy’s new principal began with the creation of a Search Committee composed of trustees, parents, faculty, administrators, and Sisters of Mercy.
“I am honored to accept the position to lead my Alma Mater that I so cherish. It feels as though faith and destiny have brought me here, and I am ready for both the rewards and the challenges that leading our school will have. This opportunity will allow me to pay it forward. Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women was instrumental in shaping me to be the woman and the leader that I am today, and I cannot wait to shape the leaders of tomorrow in the same way.” states Dr. Diodato.
Dr. Diodato was unanimously selected by the search committee to serve as Mercy’s new principal. Diodato has more than 20 years of experience in local education and counseling. Before employment at Mercy, she was the Lead School Counselor at East High School in the Rochester City School District, a position she held for 18 years. Diodato holds a Ph.D. from University at Buffalo in Education, Leadership, and Policy with advanced certification in Teaching and Leading for Diversity. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Rochester. Diodato earned her administrative certification at SUNY Brockport. Her professional memberships include; the NYS Counselor Association, American School Counselor Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Catholic Education Association.
