Mercy Receives Top-Level AP Distinction

October 25, 2023

This month, Mercy was awarded the top-level distinction of Platinum with regard to the Advanced Placement Program (AP) Honor Roll announced by the College Board. Additionally, we also received the 2023 AP Access Award for providing all students equal availability to AP coursework regardless of their backgrounds.

The College Board recognizes schools that meet criteria in three different categories. These categories are; the percentage of seniors who take at least one AP exam before graduating, the percentage of seniors earning an AP exam score of 3 or higher, and the percentage of seniors taking a total of five or more AP exams while in high school, with at least one taken in 9th or 10th grade.

Mercy was able to earn a listing on this year’s AP School Honor Roll as a Platinum school by meeting these criteria:

  • A remarkable 95% of the Class of 2023 completed at least one AP course before graduating. The minimum goal to receive this status is 80%.
  • 71% of students from the Class of 2023 scored 3 or higher on an AP exam, earning them college credit. The minimum goal to receive this status is 50%.
  • 39% of students from the Class of 2023 completed 5 or more AP exams, where at least one exam was taken in grades 9 or 10. The minimum goal to receive this status is 15%.

“Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women’s commitment to academic excellence, confidence-building programs, and inclusivity has earned us the prestigious recognition with the College Board’s highest honor and I am extremely proud of our students and faculty as it is a testament to their unwavering dedication to academics. It is clear that OLM is not only preparing young women for academic success but also nurturing the leaders of tomorrow with the confidence to excel in all aspects of life.” says Elizabeth Guzzetta, Dean of Academics.

Mercy also received the AP Access Award, a recognition for providing all students the chance to participate in AP courses, including students of underrepresented populations.

OLM proudly offers an impressive array of 23 Advanced Placement (AP) courses in addition to 8 dual college credit courses, providing students with the opportunity to engage in rigorous college-level coursework. For nearly 100 years, Mercy has displayed unwavering dedication to the betterment of our students and the community we serve. We are appreciative of this recognition and proud of our faculty, staff, and students who have worked hard to help earn it.
