Many students at Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women balance their academics, athletics, and club participation with a part-time job, particularly in the summer. The decision to work is one that needs to be made by the student and her parents/guardians as there are many things to consider.
Mercy’s guidance counselors are more than happy to speak with a student and her parents regarding the benefits and concerns of paid employment during the school year or during summer break. Mercy students who are under 18 must receive a work permit prior to beginning most jobs. Please follow the steps below to acquire a permit.
Work Permit Guidelines
- Work permit form AT-17 (link below) needs to be completed and signed (only parts 1 and 2 need to be completed). The form must have a parent signature.
- Check with the nurse to verify that the school has a current health form on file. (During the summer, this information will be available in the Counseling Office).
- Bring the completed form to Ms. Costello in the Counseling Office. The work permit card will be given to the student. NOTE! The student must be present to sign the work permit card.
*Parents are not permitted to pick up the card for their daughter, as it must be signed by the student herself.
