Dive into the Arts
Visual Arts at Mercy

Visual Art classes at Mercy offer a welcoming environment where students can explore their creativity and grow both artistically and personally. Beyond developing artistic ability, our classes help students strengthen skills that extend far beyond the studio, including critical thinking and problem solving skills, reflection, collaboration, and confidence in sharing their ideas.

  • Middle School Art

Students in middle school have the opportunity to take an art class every year. These courses cover a wide range of art making techniques and processes including: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital art, and more! Experience in these courses builds a strong foundation for continuing their art career in high school.
  • High School Art and Advanced Placement (AP) Art Courses

High school art courses offer introductory classes in Studio in Art, Digital Photography, Digital Art & Animation, Pottery, and Sculpture. Students can choose to continue developing their skills with more advanced art courses including: Drawing & Painting, Advanced Art Studio, Pottery II, and Advanced Sculpture. If students would like to earn college credit, Mercy offers Advanced Placement (AP) art courses. These courses can count towards college credit for all students, whether they choose to pursue college coursework in the visual arts or not.
  • Art Facilities

Dedicated art spaces include a high school art classroom, middle school art classroom, pottery studio, and the Gould Art Gallery located on the second floor of the Dismas Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Digital Media

Mercy art students have access to the entire Adobe Creative Suite on their school-issued tablet device. Students learn how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects, giving them valuable experience with programs used in many career fields, both within and outside of the visual arts.

Where do the arts take you?

Many of Mercy’s art students graduate to pursue careers in architecture, business, engineering, education, fashion, graphic design, industrial design, museum studies, photography, public relations, and more.
